Women In Need - Annual Gala
On Wednesday evening I was privileged to be a guest at Women In Need's annual fundraiser party at the gorgeous Pierre hotel on 5th Avenue. Women in Need is a spectacular organization that provides shelter and other services for homeless women and their families in NYC - and there are 35,000 of them! They are one of my very favorite organizations and it is always an honor to provide services for them.
One of the beautiful parts of the evening was the awarding of the "Peter Jennings Prize" to various children who are or have been in WIN's shelters. Peter Jennings was a huge supporter of WIN and particularly the children of the program, so WIN instituted an award in his honor which was presented by his lovely widow.
Here is a snippet from one of the award winners, a lovely young lady named Anessa, who is age 9 which I found very moving and inspirational entitled "What Friendship Means to Me":
Friendship is about being loyal to each other. I believe true friends can trust each other to be honest even when it is not easy. Caring about the other person is important to a friendship. Crying and laughing go together in a tight friendship. Being able to forgive and depend on one another must exist if the friendship is going to be able to be called a "friendship." A true friendship is a blessing from God becuase they know all about you and like you, in spite of all they know. When you are in a positive friendship, you have the courage to face any and all problems together.
