Lady Gaga - Perfect Pick-Me Up Party Music

Now that the holidays are over - are we glad, or do we miss them (even just a little?).   I meant to post this BEFORE the soiree season started, but maybe it's even better that I post this now because it will get your bopping and will cheer you up if you are having the January Blues:  Lady Gaga.  Her album, The Fame, is ever so much fun and is one of the ONLY albums that I have purchased in the last few years that I actually like to listen to ALL of it.  Remember when you were a kid and you'd listen to an album from  beginning to end (did we have a choice, really, with tapes and records?  You either had to rewind the tape constantly and hope the tape wouldn't jam up your machine or unravel or you would have to carefully lift the needle on the player and hope you didn't scratch the hell out of your new record).   It was like a musical experience.  You can entirely do this with this Lady Gaga album.  She's like a cross between old school Madonna, Gwen Stefani, and with a bit of her own DJ sensibility thrown in which makes it entirely unique and her own.  You can find me bopping about listening to her on the NYC subways almost daily!   

Recommended Listen: Robyn

As I lay on the dentist's chair getting a 2 hour root canal yesterday (ack!) I listed to Robyn's new album and really  loved it!    It's a great mix of dance, synth, and pop.  I've loved her stuff since her original album oh so many years ago (my favorite song for a long time is "Show Me Love") .  . . and it was the perfect distraction from all the drilling.  Definitely check it out on ITunes! 

Music Recommendation - the new Annie Lennox

I have been a huge fan of Annie Lennox's for many years.  She has an incredible gift of making music that is progressive, soulful, and resonates with women's lives.   I just downloaded her newest album, "Songs of Mass Destruction."   On this album, she pairs up with uber-producer Glen Ballard and the duo really packs a punch with the song selection.  One of my favorites is of "Sing," an awareness-raiser for Nelson Mandela's 46664 and Treatment Action Campaign, which support those affected by HIV and AIDS. Lennox is joined on the song by Madonna, Celine Dion, Shakira, Faith Hill, Sarah McLachlan and Pink.  She is also supporting this album with a tour, and I hope that I haven't missed her stop in NYC!
